Overview

Stamp Duty Land Tax is complex and ever-shifting, subject to more alterations since it was introduced in 2003 than any other comparable tax.

The legislation governing it is now full of exceptions, exemptions and reliefs, aimed at covering the vast variety of property types and property buyers.

Not all of these are obvious to conveyancers and property solicitors who are generally inclined – thanks to lack of help from HMRC and conflicting messages from their regulator, the SRA – to differentiate simply between a whether a property is residential or commercial for purposes of SDLT calculation.

It is estimated that 1 in 5 SDLT calculations are wrong.  This is where Cornerstone come in.  We have been delivering trusted, quality, property tax advice for 15 years, serving private clients, solicitors, accountants and agents

If you are one of the hundreds of homebuyers who think you may have overpaid stamp duty, please contact us and one of our experienced tax advisers will be able to advise you accordingly.

Problems we solve for agents

We assist our Agent's clients in ensuring they are paying the correct amount of SDLT.  This is a value add service for the agent as a standalone offering.

However, where there are savings to be made, and often, they are material, this can help push the sale purchase process through, or even free up further budget for the buyer to aid the sale.
